About

Eric Yang is a music theorist.

His interests lie in the development of tonality, spaces and transformations, mathematical representations of music, and the music of John Adams. He is also interested in the way musicians think about how theory shapes music, especially how we subconsciously mold music into understandable pieces. He has presented his work on musical spaces at the Society for Music Theory, Music Theory Southeast/South Central, and the Texas Society, among others.

He holds a Bachelor of Music in History, Culture, and Theory from the Universiy of Toronto and diplomas from the London College of Music in Classical Singing and Piano Performance. Outside of theory, he maintains an active schedule as a vocalist and teaches in the Calgary area. In his free time, he enjoys playing jazz piano.
